Set-up and operate several production machine tools where tooling, set-up detail and operating procedures are standardized and obvious – or operate and maintain set-ups on special purpose machines where operations may involve several progressive machining sequences. Generally close tolerance work where dimensional and finish requirements are not difficult to maintain due to nature of tooling and machine set-ups. Work usually repetitive and subject to process inspection. May be required to read part drawings and use adjustable, direct reading and fixed gauges to check work. Requires a fundamental knowledge of machine shop operations as acquired by short job training and experience.
Requires a basic knowledge of tooling applications and shop practices plus basic training on manual and/or numerically controlled machine tools.
Follow all company rules, practices, and procedures. Operate manual, semi-automatic or automatic numerically controlled machine tools to perform standard and repetitive sequences of operations where programs are proved and setups are made by others. Able to perform drilling, boring, and milling, turning, etc. operations. Follow detailed instructions, work from standard machine codes and operational data to change or mount tools and position work piece. Operate control console to orient spindle. Check work position at specified points and document information as instructed. Document quality data as instructed. Make adjustments to machine to maintain finish and tolerance requirements. Have a basic understanding of part drawings Use precision measuring instruments to check machine positioning and inspect product as instructed. Recognize and report machine malfunctions, tooling difficulties, etc. to supervisor or lead person.
